The origin of the idea for a World Reserve, a vast area to be preserved in its original state in perpetuity, began in May 1983 when director and founder Jeff Shea stood on the rim of the Strickland Gorge in the Highlands of New Guinea, the world’s second largest island. About to embark on a 39-day expedition on foot to the Sepik River region in the north, Jeff knew that the land before him had virtually no infrastructure. Instilled with a sense of awe and mystery, Jeff envisioned a vast area on each continent, where nature ruled and humans were simply … visitors.

Fast forward to 2020 and World Reserves, Inc. is working to make this vision a reality. Today, World Reserves, Inc. is working on landscape conservation in places just like New Guinea to ensure nature is protected, forever.
